Charles Darwin was a naturalist. In 1831 he sailed around the world, he was the ship's naturalist. A naturalist is a scientist who studies living things in nature. His job was to list and describe all the plants and animals he saw on the trip. When he returned to England, he studied his notes. He also studied all the existing theories on the origins of different animals, including humans. In 1858 Charles Darwin wrote a book on his theories. His ideas became the basis of the modern study of evolution.
Charles Darwin Four Main Ideas of natural selection
1. Most organisms have more offspring than can survive. Many many babies are made so that the species will not die off
2.Offspring must compete for food and space. Many organism's offspring do not survive and reproduce. It is because there is not enough food and living space for all of them
3. Organisms that survive have traits that are best suited to their evnviornment. Since there is not enough food and space for all organisms to survive, an organism must be able to get food and protect itself from enemies.
4.Natural selection passes along helpful traits to offspring. strong and fast cats will live longer than week and slow cats. The strong and fast cats are more than likely to have offspring. They will pass on their genes to their kittens
